On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, Glisson Vineyards & Winery of Paducah was announced as the winner of the 2nd Annual Xtreme Business Makeover contest hosted by KeeFORCE and a team of twenty additional well-respected business partners. The contest ran from January through April. The program was designed to showcase what local businesses have to offer the community, and to use those resources to help an existing business advance to a higher level of success. An independent panel of judges made up of five community & business leaders had the opportunity to cast his or her vote on three semi-finalists, with Glisson Vineyards & Winery emerging as the winner of the grand prize valued at nearly $40,000 in business products and services.
Glisson Vineyards & Winery began in 2007 with Stephen and Katie Glisson of Paducah planting 700 grape vines in their own vineyard. Their first harvest came in 2009. At that time they obtained their commercial winery license. The duo began selling their wines at local festivals, car shows and the Paducah Farmer’s Market gaining a reputation for making a high quality wine made entirely from Kentucky grown grapes, not the traditional California grown varieties. "If it was going to have our name on it, then it had to be great", stated winemaker and co-owner Stephen Glisson. In 2011, Don Crocker joined the team and together they opened their retail location at 126 Market House Square in Paducah.
Glisson Vineyards & Winery will receive a host of goods and services that includes IT support, marketing & branding services, janitorial cleaning service, website development services, free hotel rooms, review of business plan & marketing plan, car washing & detailing services, newspaper ads, financial life planning, hardwood flooring, legal services, on hold messaging, business risk assessment, office equipment, paper shredding services, promotional products, architect services, a communications audit, a review of tax structure and bookkeeping systems, leadership training and complimentary graphic printing services.
"There were so many worthy businesses and organizations that applied, it was truly a difficult task for the judges to narrow it down to one winner. We are very happy for Glisson Vineyards & Winery, and we look forward to working with them in the months to come," stated Terry McKee, President of KeeFORCE. "The Xtreme Business Makeover contest has proven to be a great way for business leaders to come together and provide support for other growing businesses within the community. We want to thank everyone that took the time to submit an application, the five judges for taking time to determine our winner, and most importantly thank you to all of the business partners that made this project possible!"
